Can General Anesthesia Be Used for Hair Transplant Surgery?

We do not prefer administering general anesthesia for hair transplant surgeries. Hair transplant is the procedure that involves the extraction of hair follicles one by one from the back of the scalp, and the sides (between the ears, called the donor site) and the transplantation of these follicles to the recipient site.

Hair transplant surgeries take about six to eight hours. We do not want to give our patients general anesthesia for such a long time. During the procedure, the patient needs to move – change their position for the procedure, therefore, we use local anesthesia in hair transplantation.
