Patients who are HIV positive or have hepatitis constitute a risky group for hair transplant. Some hair transplant surgery teams might opt out after the results come HIV positive or show the existence of hepatitis. Even though HIV positive patients or those with hepatitis would not have any problems having hair transplant, because the medical devices used during the operation cannot be disposed, and the patient and the doctors are in the same environment, there is the risk of transmission of these illnesses to the team.
In Turkey, currently, HIV positive patients or patients with Hepatitis cannot have hair transplants. We recommend patients with these illnesses to finish their treatments, and proceed with hair transplant afterwards.
